Random, unconnected thoughts about tendonitis, music and politics
2003-09-11 - 4:31 p.m.

Cripes I'm getting' old. I sat down and played guitar for five hours on Sunday, and reviewed what I learned the next morning. So yeah, I got a lot done, but now I have tendonitis in my left hand and it's only just starting to go away. Unfortunately, we have a practise tonight and I'll probably re-inflame it. D'oh.

OK, so I've been watching Canadian Idol. I admit it. What I don't understand (apart from my fascination with inane shows marketed toward teenagers), is why the Canadian public has systematically voted off the best singers on the show. Is Canada retarded? We are left with this guy, who sings sharp all the time, and this guy, who I admit I don't mind so much, when the two best damned singers in the competition were voted off quite early on.

We nearly had a big problem with the CD we're recording. Our drummer is incapacitated after having his hip surgically replaced, and we've discovered that five of the tracks he did aren't usable. I told him we were going to have to get somebody (or something, i.e. a drum machine) to redo them, and he lost his mind. It's all good now though, he was withdrawing from nicotine at the time and he wants to see this thing finished as much as the rest of us. So, we've got the drummer from my previous group signing on to record the goofed tracks at the end of September. Hopefully we can make this work.

So Pinky is rehearsing Monday nights with the operatic group while I stay at home and do laundry, or other stuff. I elected not to audition this year because I just don't think I'll have time between the Celtic group and the original-songs project. I think it's also good for Pinky to have her own thing going too, and she sure as hell has missed singing for the past 6 months. I have to admit though, there is a small part I would've liked to audition for… maybe next year.

Oh, and it appears that not only did Bush lie to his people about the reasons for going into Iraq, he also lied about the degree of the toxicity resulting from the calamity that occurred two years ago today. Please tell me the American public will be smart enough to vote this guy out next year. Please?

<bla bla>
