Allergies, Celtic plan, girl-power, work perks, recording
2003-10-03 - 1:36 p.m.

ArrrrrrrrrghyeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllpppppppppCrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaappppppp!

My. Nose. Is. Driving. Me. Crazy!!!!!!

I have some sort of weird allergy or something that seems to affect me in the fall... I feel like somebody's tickling the inside of my nostril with a feather. Can you imagine?? I'm going crazy. I've even made arrangements to go to the doctor this aft, which, if you know me, is drastic. But I know he can give me what I need -- a little pump that does wonders for the nasal apparatus. I hope to be itch-free in a few hours, and no longer dribbling nose-goop on everyone in my personal space.

Last night the CF and the Marv and I met to discuss our oft-derailed Celtic band project. For me, we've been getting to a shit-or-get-off-the-pot stage in our development, and now we've got a plan in hand to get our asses in gear to be ready to gig in the new year. I know we can do this, but only time will tell if we *do* do this. Here's hoping. And no wise-cracks about the three of us and our apparent senior-citizen like vulnerability to tendonitis, k? :-)

Last night the 12th-ranked Canadian women's soccer ("football") team defeated 4th-ranked China in the women's world cup. I think that's pretty cool. If they win the semi-final this weekend, they'll play in the final the following weekend, and maybe I can watch it with the girls and show 'em that women can do and have anything a man can, and through their own will rather than through marriage...

(And sometimes do better than men, too -- the women now have 3 wins and one loss in this tournament; the Canadian men have never won a game in world cup play. In fact, I don't think they've ever even scored a goal!)

This morning my boss picked me and one of my colleagues up from our homes and brought us to breakfast with the rest of our department at a downtown eatery. No stories to tell here, I just thought it was kinda nice, and that I should mention it and remind myself that I have it pretty good at my job...

Speaking of my job, I forgot to mention here that they've just announced that the main product I work in has been "obsoleted" and will be superceded by some greater technology. This hopefully doesn't mean that my arse is out on the street anytime soon, but it does mean that for the moment I'm in a bit of a thumb-twiddling stage while they decide where they're going with this. In fact, I can't even twiddle my thumbs that well, what with the tendonitis an' all. :-)

Tuesday night we started recording acoustic guitars for the CD. One thing about recording is you realize pretty fast that you're not as good as you think you are. Every little mistake or lazy habit you have becomes magnified 10 times over.

We also listened to the five tracks that were redone by the substitute drummer. Four of them sound good, but the fifth one just didn't cut it. We'll have to figure out a way to bring back Keith Moon from the dead in order to get it done, I guess. Anyone good at séances?

Monday night I stayed home while Pinky went to operatic rehearsal. I spent the whole evening trying to get little things done, but failed to finish. It's amazing how the little administrative details of life can pile up on you and leave you with no time for anything else. I kept thinking I'd be able to sit down to an hour's worth of quiet reading, only to find myself still folding laundry when Pinky walked back in the door.

(Hey waitasec, do you think I'm taking this "girl-power" thing too far? Pinky goes out, I stay home and do laundry and the dishes... Have I been emasculated??? ;-)

The girls return to Ottawa today. Last night Littlest told me on the phone that she feels "weird" to be moving, since she's "moved six times already." I tried to tell her that there were good things about the place she's returning to, that it's OK to be feeling several different emotions, and to try and remember that her mommy and daddy love her. In my mind, I told her that if her mother wasn't such a... let's say, "unpredictable person"... she'd still be living with or near me and would never have had to move around like this.

Meanwhile, Eldest has asked me a couple of times if I'll move to Ottawa now that they're back. Talk about pulling the heart-strings. Sure, I mean, I'd love to move to Ottawa, if I had a job there, and not such a good one here, and if Pinky could go, and if only I didn't have all my friends and musical projects here... Damn.

Anyway, I told her that I didn't know if I could get a job there very easily. She told me that Wendy's is hiring in the mall near where they'll live.

Eep. *lump-in-throat*

<bla bla>
