More jams
2003-11-11 - 3:47 p.m. Last night Marv and I went and checked out the bluegrass jam session at a local downtown pub. We showed up with our instruments (guitar, fiddle), awkwardly pulled up stools and tried not to look too intimidated. There ended up being about 10 musicians or so, and they quickly launched into various jams centered around the G, C and D guitar chord positions. Marv more than held his own, eliciting a few woops with some tentative soloing, and I just followed along with the chords. I was too nervous to jump into solos (not my forte anyway), but enjoyed it nonetheless. I think we'll be back. In the meantime, we need to show up next time with a couple of songs to play that fit into the bluegrass format. Celtic, although we did play one fiddle tune, isn't quite right for what they were doing last night. Now to show up with CF at a similar type of jam night for Celtic music... It's funny though how music throws my brain into a completely different space. When we walked out of the bar, I very nearly fell on my face and proceeded to find it exceedingly difficult to form words. And I'd only had one beer all night... ******** ******** Geekious entries: The time, she flies - 2005-05-05 Cool - 2005-03-07 Alone time - 2005-02-22 Music stuff - 2005-02-17 I want - 2005-02-16 (If the geeksbook doesn't work, try writing me a diaryland note.) |
