Windows, are we done?
2004-04-22 - 8:46 a.m.

Tuesday night, I went to Poli's office to try and fix her boss's computer problems. I left there defeated. Fer gods' sakes, does it really need to be so difficult for a computer to recognize an external DVD drive? Windows "Plug-and-play" (note the quotes) has been around now for, what, 9 years? Yes, it was a joke for most of those years, but you'd think by now they'd have worked out the kinks.

On top of that, WinFax pro seems to become psychoware on Windows XP, and XP itself seems to be Microsoft's deliberate attempt to bollox up the one operating system they ever came close to getting right -- Windows 2000.

Even the techie guy here at work has spent the morning fighting with the new high-tech scanner the department bought, trying to get it to work with Windows. It's endless.

I'm seriously wondering if I should buy a Mac next time around. Freakin' Microsoft.

(Of course, my secret motive in this is to get my hands on the garage band music-recording software that comes with Macs, as well as the 64-bit, dual-processor capability that's available with Power Macs... but those cost a LOT of money, something I don't have a lot of right now. :-( But, like I said, my motive is a *secret*, so don't tell Poli eh? I have to make her think it would be a *practical* purchase - you know, for accounting and paper-writing and such, know what I'm sayin'? ;-)

<bla bla>
