Sleepy Groggy
2004-09-07 - 11:40 a.m. Attempting to write an entry this morning, as I'm too exhausted to actually get any work done. It shouldn't be this bad, 'cause really, Poli's taking the brunt of the sleeplessness these days since she has to breast-feed the baby. And yet, this morning I'm just wiped. It might very well be connected to the fact that for the first time in over a month, I came into work before 8am instead of sometime after 10. At least tomorrow my body will have adjusted. I hope. Last night Marv and I played at a family function (his). It was a little weird, we were in a sort of ballroom like you'd see in a hotel, with no mics, and with bright light. I guess I was a little unsettled, 'cause I flat-out blanked on a couple of verses and had some problems hitting chords that normally don't give me trouble. Adding to the stress was the fact that I don't do very well around large groups of people I don't know. But I think they enjoyed it and appreciated seeing Marv play the violin for perhaps the first time in a while(?). In other news, Poli's taking Geelitika (still haven't figured out what to call her here) to the doc this morning for a regularly scheduled appointment. She's been having a lot of trouble breathing lately, and it's kinda scary. I'm anxious to find out if the doc will have anything helpful to say. Speaking of docs, cf is supposed to be off to one this morning to get his hand looked at. Here's hoping he can get *that* fixed up without too much fuss. So what else have I been doing lately, aside from changing diapers, spending two weeks watching the Olympics, and walking in circles around the apartment trying to stop Geelitika's cries? Well, I bought a new book that explains how to play C*ltic tunes on the banjo. It's a perfect fit for me, and I've started working on the practise riffs documented in the early chapters. So, um, they're kinda hard. I've had these visions of myself playing great C*ltic banjo rolls onstage 2 months from now, but perhaps that's a little optimistic. :-) Before starting on this new book I *did*, however, manage to learn a bluegrass tune that I got stuck on several months ago. I've even got it going up to the speed it's meant to be played at. I don't necessarily get it *right* every time, but it's a close approximation. :-) In still yet more news, I got a bonus and some stock options last week, for "going above and beyond" in the past year. I also managed to get management to realise I can't keep taking on new projects without delegating some of the old ones, so that's a good thing. Now if I could just wake up and get some work done this morning...
