She's here
2004-08-06 - 2:21 a.m. She's here! She's here! Yes, she. Apparently I only produce girls. :-) She was born Wednesday, August 5th at 8:20am, weighing 8lbs 4.6oz. Mom endured about 8 hours of labour, 6 of which were in the hospital. She got a fever from, apparently, dehydration and thus the little one got it too. But they're both fine now. Little one is having a bit of trouble figuring out that she needs to EAT, but that'll come. It all started on Wednesday night, when, after we coincidentally dropped off the kids at my sister's for a 2-day sleep over, Poli went into labour and broke her water at about 1:40am. We arrived at the hospital to find out she was 7.5cm dilated, which is crazy. I think that put her in a bit of shock (and caused the fever). She had the epidural -- thank the gods for those things, 'cause as I mentioned to someone a few hours later, labour is a cruel joke created by the gods. (I can just hear 'em: "Hey guys, guys, listen to this one -- I know how we get them to reproduce, we give them the miracle of childbirth, but we make it so bloody painful that it scares the living shit out of them and actually kills a large percentage of the women until about the year 1910. Should be fun to watch. Whaddaya think??") But seeing the little one come out and lie there looking around at her new world... both of us just had to cry. She's an amazing little thing. (Oh, and she has big feet and freakishly long fingers. How appropriate given that mom used to dance and dad plays musical instruments.:-) Incidentally, Poli was a champ. I am so proud of her and feel so lucky to have her. This kid's going to have one incredible mom. Today the girls met her (the baby). They fight over who gets to hold her more. And they're disappointed that they can't spend tonight at the hospital with her. (Last night I did, but that was when the girls were at my sis's.) We walked up the stairs to the apartment tonight, and I said "hey guys, you know, tonight it's just the three of us, like it was for a long time, and starting tomorrow it's going to be the five of us from now on." You better believe it. Five instead of three. About two thirds different. Sounds about right. :-) Geekious entries: The time, she flies - 2005-05-05 Cool - 2005-03-07 Alone time - 2005-02-22 Music stuff - 2005-02-17 I want - 2005-02-16 (If the geeksbook doesn't work, try writing me a diaryland note.) |
